South Lake Art League Honored with City Proclamation at High School Art Exhibition

Clermont Mayor Recognizes League's Contributions During Annual Student Showcase

The South Lake Art League (SLAL) proudly unveiled its 5th Annual High School Art Display on Saturday, November 1, at their gallery located at 776 West Montrose Street in historic downtown Clermont.

Prior to the exhibition's opening, the League's board convened for a scheduled meeting. During this session, Clermont Mayor Tim Murry made an unexpected appearance, presenting a special proclamation from the City of Clermont. This proclamation honored the SLAL for its unwavering commitment to community engagement and its significant artistic contributions to the city. Notably, the League has provided artwork for city buildings, public spaces, and initiatives such as the police department’s children’s advocacy room and the annual Fallen Heroes 5K participant arch. In recognition of these efforts, November 1, 2025, was officially declared South Lake Art League Day in Clermont.

Following the proclamation, students from local high schools gathered at the gallery to admire and discuss the creative works of their peers. The exhibition, showcasing a vibrant array of student art, will remain open to the public through November 16.

Among the featured artists was Remington Hayes from East Ridge High School. Under the guidance of teacher Nesly Latorre, Remington crafted a "wood design" piece enhanced with foreground snakes to deepen the woodland theme. "I aimed to showcase creativity in the wood design while adding color for enhancement," Remington explained.

Another standout was Teagan Pittman, a 10th-grade student at South Lake High School, taught by Jennifer Vida. Teagan's piece, titled "A Bigger World," illustrates insects and crustaceans coexisting harmoniously. "Art runs in our family," Teagan shared, noting her lifelong passion and aspirations to continue developing her creative talents.

Looking ahead, the South Lake Art League is set to host an exhibition featuring artwork from elementary school students on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10 am to noon. This event promises to highlight the budding talents of younger artists in the community.

In addition to these events, the League is collaborating with the Clermont Garden Club for an Art Stroll on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at 849 West Avenue, Clermont. This free event will feature artist demonstrations, displays, raffles, a kids’ craft table, and a scavenger hunt for all ages.

Furthermore, the League recently concluded its annual Fall Art Show on October 6, 2025, celebrating local talent with a diverse mix of watercolor, mixed media, acrylic, and pastel works. The event was a vibrant showcase of the community's artistic spirit.

For those interested in joining the League, membership offers opportunities to participate in various classes, workshops, and exhibitions. The League meets six times a year and offers classes in acrylics, drawing, mixed media, watercolor, journaling, basket weaving, and zentangle.
