Hartwood Marsh Road Expansion Set to Alleviate Clermont Traffic Woes

Residents of Clermont, Florida, are poised to see significant improvements in local traffic flow as the long-anticipated Hartwood Marsh Road expansion moves forward.

 

After years of planning and delays, the Lake County Commission has secured funding to commence construction in March 2026.

 

The project aims to transform the existing two-lane road into a four-lane thoroughfare, stretching from U.S. Highway 27 to Regency Hills Drive.

 

This expansion is expected to alleviate the notorious congestion that has plagued the area, especially during peak hours.

 

In addition to widening the road, the project will introduce several enhancements to improve safety and accessibility.

 

These include paved sidewalks, traffic separators, shoulders, bike lanes, and curb and gutter installations.

 

Such features are designed to accommodate the growing population and increasing traffic demands in the region.

 

Local residents have expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming improvements.

 

Vincent Niemiec, a resident of the nearby Regency Hills community, shared his relief: "We've been waiting years and years. I've been advocating for this road for over eight years now, and it's like a Christmas present early to us, the entire community."

 

The journey to this point has been marked by financial hurdles and shifting priorities.

 

Initially designed in the early 2000s, the project faced setbacks due to funding shortages and other pressing infrastructure needs.

 

In 2022, the county approved updated designs but lacked the necessary funds to proceed.

 

To expedite the process, the commission explored a $12 million short-term loan, aiming to bridge the financial gap until state funding becomes available in 2027.

 

Commissioner Sean Parks emphasized the urgency: "There's some relief on the horizon for that stretch of road that I know has been a problem for so many years."

 

With the funding now secured, the county plans to initiate the bidding process next month to select a construction firm.

 

Construction is slated to begin between March and May of 2026, with an estimated duration of two years.
